Why is Professional Dental Cleaning Needed?

While regular tooth brushing and flossing helps to prevent plaque build-up, they are not enough because they do not reach all the places where bacteria can form and they do not remove tartar. A professional teeth cleaning by a dentist reaches those difficult to reach areas and removes tartar.

What is a Deep Cleaning?

A deep dental cleaning, also called root planing and scaling, is a one of the most effective ways to treat gum disease before it becomes severe. Deep dental cleaning (root planing and scaling) is a procedure that cleans between the gums and the teeth down to the roots of the teeth. Deep teeth cleaning is recommended when the gums have started to pull away from the teeth or the roots of the teeth have tartar on them. A deep dental cleaning normally requires a local anesthetic is to numb your gums and the roots of your teeth. If you had a deep teeth cleaning in the past, it is very important that you have your teeth professionally cleaned on a regular basis. If you’ve had a deep dental cleaning and it has been more than six-months since your last professional cleaning, call 940-565-5049 today to set an appointment.

How Often Should I Have My Teeth Cleaned?

Most people should have their teeth professionally cleaned every six-months. Persons being treated for gum disease may require more frequent cleaning. A routine examination and x-ray of the teeth and mouth should be performed at least once per year. If it has been more than one-year since your last professional dental cleaning, call 940-565-5049 today to set an appointment.

Why is it important to remove Dental Plaque and Dental Tartar?

The bacteria that form plaque and tartar are naturally present in the mouth and are harmless if controlled by the combination of regular tooth brushing and professional teeth cleaning. However, failure to regularly remove plaque and tartar allows plaque and tartar to build up in a thick layer and may lead to serious dental problems. At Anew Dental, Dr. Pham uses a state-of-the-art, computer controlled ultrasonic cleaner called a Cavitron to effectively and comfortably remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. What kinds of Damages are Caused by Dental Plaque and Dental Tartar?

As plaque becomes thicker, the bacteria begin to produce acids that can lead to tooth decay, cavities, inflamation of the gums (gingivitus), and/or bone loss (periodontitis). While saliva will normally neutralize these acids, the build up of plaque on the tooth prevents salvia from reaching the tooth surface and protecting the tooth and surrounding tissues.

What are Gingivitis and Periodontitis?

Gingivitus is the inflammation of gum tissue caused by the bacteria present in plaque build up on the surface of the teeth. The symptoms of gingivitis include bad breathe, swollen gums, bright red or purple gums, gums that are sensitive to touch, bleeding gums, and/or bleeding after brushing or flossing. Periodontitis is a more serious condition caused by the bacteria present in plaque. Periodontitis affects the tissues that surround and support the teeth and, if left untreated, may result in the loosening and loss of the affected teeth.
